About Our Business
George Latus has been a "motorcycle guy" his whole life. In 1969, after returning from the Army, George started his career in the motorcycle industry as a mechanic for the Cycle Centre in Missoula, Montana. In 1974, George left the Cycle Centre and started his own motorcycle repair shop, naming the business Latus Motors. This business was very small, with only George and one other full-time employee. The business repaired motorcycles, sold new and used parts, and bought and sold used motorcycles. Times were tough, but the business was successful, had a good reputation and slowly grew.
In 1984, George responded to a Harley-Davidson newspaper ad looking for a dealer in Spokane, Washington. Harley-Davidson allowed George to start a dealership in Spokane that year. George started the business in a 3,000 sq. ft. store with just himself and two other employees. The Spokane business grew and in 1991 George bought the dealership in Portland. The store at that time was located on Sandy Blvd. The Sandy Blvd. store was approximately 10,000 sq. ft. and initially employed about ten people.
In 2003 George sold the Spokane, Washington store so he could devote his time to opening the new 53,000 sq. ft. store we now occupy in Portland Oregon. Additionally we have a separate building where we uncrate and assemble our new motorcycles and perform collision repair work. This building is located about two miles from the main store (9500 SE Clackamas Road). We also have another location (Latus Motors Salvage) where we sell take-off, used, and close-out parts, accessories and clothing. The address of this store is 11011 N. Vancouver Way, Portland. Latus Motors Harley-Davidson currently employs about 75 people.
Latus Motors Harley-Davidson has always been involved in racing. Over the years we've sponsored and supported riders competing in all forms of motorcycle competition. We're known nationally for our involvement in racing and for our Harley-Davidson Performance work. Riders we've supported include Steve Dorn, AHDRA Top Fuel Drag Bike and 2009 Top Fuel Champion, Randy Borho, AHDRA Pro Modified Drag Bike and 2 time class champion, Joe Kopp, AMA Grand National Dirt Track #3 and former Grand National Champion, and Steve Rapp #15, AMA Pro Road Racing and Daytona 200 winner. We've competed everywhere from Bonneville to Pikes Peak. Racing is clearly in our DNA!
