**Tyler Lones is a normal high school student at Southwestern Randolph High School, undergoing some unfavorable medical conditions causing him to have several strokes in the past few months!
On what seemed to be an average Wednesday afternoon, turned out to be life-changing, gloomy day for Tyler and his family! Tyler had just gotten fitted for his tuxedo for his high school prom, an exciting event that all high schoolers dream of. He was sitting in the car after his mother, Alicia, went inside to drop off his sister at dance practice. She returned 10 minutes later to find Tyler was unable to use his arms to put his seatbelt back on. Upon a closer look, his mother observed Tyler was also exhibiting facial drooping, another classic sign of a stroke.
Alicia rushed him to Randolph Hospital where they confirmed he was having a severe stroke. Randolph Hospital then transported Tyler, emergency traffic to Brenner's Children's Hospital in Winston Salem where they gave him TPA (a clot busting drug) to try to reverse the not so irreversible effects of a stroke. Tyler underwent a three hour long procedure, a Thrombectomy, which both of his parents said, felt like an eternity. The longest three hours of their lives, let alone the longest most stressful day of their lives. Tyler was hospitalized at Brenner's from April 7th until April 15th, then was transported to Levin's Children's Hospital where we remained for 3 weeks undergoing inpatient rehab. During this time, Tyler had to relearn most of his motor skills and had to relearn how to walk!
Finally, Tyler was released from the hospital and returned home! Just when he thought his battle was over, not even two weeks after being home, Tyler suffered from another severe stroke! He was hospitalized for an additional 10 days at Brenner's hospital, yet again. After returning home, Tyler was confident he had won the fight after four months of being back at home! Yet again Tyler endured another horrible stroke and stayed another 20 days receiving inpatient treatment at Brenner's.
Alicia, his mother, serves the community by working for the Randolph County School system as an assistant functional skills teacher at Southwestern Randolph High School, as well as a bus driver for Randolph County Schools. Tyler's father, Bryan Lones, is also passionate about serving the community. He is employed as a full-time Firefighter with over 17 years of selfless service.
This family has been years serving our community, now its our turn to return the favor! Tyler is in need of two devices, the Bioness L300 Go for stimulating his foot to help eliminate his "foot drop" and an H200 which is a wireless hand rehabilitation device to help with nervous system stimulation to achieve normal operations his left hand. Both of these devices are roughly $15,000 together, which insurance has denied coverage for. Not to mention the portion of the out of pocket medical bills and travel expenses that his family has endured during this period.
We will be having a 50/50 raffle the day of the ride and a Raffle of various items leading up to the date of the ride. The drawing will be 4-30-22 at 7PM.
There is also a go fund me account created on their behalf!
