I found this very interesting demonstration of the effects of motion induced blindness.  I think it's great information for both the free and the caged as to the effects of "over focusing" while on the road.

Some tips to help combat this condition:
1.Keep you eyes and head scanning at all times. You should be scanning the road ahead as well as the sides of the road (helps to avoid critters and unyeilding pedestrians as well). Use your eyes and head not just your peripheral vision.
2. Don't drink. (Should go without saying)
3. Don't ride/drive tired. This only increases the tendency to over focus.

Wow, that is freaky. I am always looking everywhere when riding/driving and will be doing it even more now.

It takes less than 2 seconds of locked focus to cause a crash. Head's always up and looking into the curve, scanning the periphery. thanks for the vid
