I had never been to Arkansas prior to being there for this years Bikes Blues and BBQ motorcycle event in Fayetteville, Arkansas and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise and a fantastic rally. I had heard and thus assumed the Ozarks would be beautiful but was still taken back by how beautiful.
We rode quite a bit while in Arkansas then hit the Washington County Fairgrounds on Saturday as the Kansas City Barbeque Society Barbeque Cook-off and Championship was in full swing. Fifty-nine teams from 13 states competing in four BBQ categories, including chicken, brisket, ribs, and pork. This year's winner, and rightfully so, was Getting' Sauced from Missouri!
At night we hit Dickson Street, the main artery of the rally. The street is full of activity from vendors to bars filled to capacity to those lining the streets to watch all the motorcycles parade down the street (reminded me of Daytona on Main St a little bit). Live music was offered in many of the bars and Dickson St was also the home of the Main Stage entertainment for Bikes Blues and BBQ - this included live bands, the Miss BBB contest and four couples decided to tie the 'knot' with Joe Giles, the organizer of the event, performing the ministers duties (yes, he is a minister).
After days of motorcycle-centric festivities, Arkansas' infamous Bikes, Blues, and BBQ Motorcycle Rally wrapped up shortly after midnight on Saturday, September 29 and the daunting task of cleaning up began. They would bag over 32 000 bags of trash which equals quite the successful rally.
Motorcycle incidences were down according to local police - a total of 26 arrests and 11 motorcycle accidents reported with no fatalities.
I am proud that we are the official motorcycle attorneys of Bikes Blues and BBQ and am looking forward to 2013.
Thank you Joe Giles
